Why are people so uptight and blind when it comes to religion and the concept of God? People seem to blindly follow their faith with out reason and knowledge. I dont understand it when people get offended when you question their belief. I do understand that in some cases in can be hard to explain your feelings or reasons. Religion can be a very personal thing, but to get angry about being questioned is just a ignorant and not the bliss kind either.
If you truly believe your faith is flawless and unshakable why would you be offended by a question or when someone points out a mistake? If your religion is the "truth" then simply correct their mistake and if you dont have the answer go out and find it then simply lay your knowledge on them when you got it.
Questioning your faith is not a sign of weakness. It helps make your belief stronger. In fact I would say a person who is confident enough to question their belief because they know their belief won't fail them is a stronger believer than someone who is afraid to look into their religion.
Simply being born into a religion does not make you part of that religion, not until you truly understand it and have looked into it. It's usually those kinda people who get offended when questioned. They follow religion more because of tradition and culture as opposed to because it's truly what they believe. What you get then is aspects of culture and tradition being carried out in the name of religion. Sometimes these traditions and cultural acts just wrong and what you get is people hating on a religion and it's followers for a tradition that doesn't actually belong to their religion at all.
It happens to me with my religion all the time. One prime example would be something like honour killing. I would hear people in discussions pointing out how Islam is barbaric because it encourages honour killing. No. Honour killing is purely done out of traditional values. No where in my religion does it encourage me to kill a person.
These kind of false labels can be eradicated by one simple means. Education. And a prime way of getting knowledge is by questioning. If we all knew about other religions and what they really preach and learned about our own religions too the world would just be a far more better place. Matters like hate and confusion would be gone.
If someone took time out to point out a mistake in my religion, I wouldn't be offended. Fact is if this person is right he or she just saved me from wasting a lifetime following something that is flawed and incorrect. On the other hand if I prove them wrong I strengthen my own faith and hopefully maybe even end up inviting someone to my religion. Glorious!
Just to clarify. I don't intend to offend people with this. I am not telling people what to follow or how. I am simply asking people not to be arrogant when it comes to faith. Nothing more, nothing less. I am not for one second implying that I am the perfect religious figure, in fact that I my self have a long way to go with my own belief. I still respect all faiths and beliefs, after all that is part of my belief too. Hate is also ignorance.
