Yes I have pretty much summed up my opinion about the matter but this whole situation led to a whole another debate. On the way home today I was listening to LBC (a topic based radio station) and what shocked me was how some women felt the need to be exactly like men?
Surely a woman who only thrives to be exactly like a man lacks ambition. What should be important to a woman is whether by law they have the same rights as men. Not that they should be able to do everything a man does. If that's the case then is the fact that women can not serve on the front line sexist? No. That it is just something a woman can't do and I feel should never have to do. I once debated this fact to someone who said Israel really excels in the freedom for women ... what because by law every woman has to serve in the army on the front line? Even in that situation it's probably more to do with the fact that the country feels it needs all the man/women power it can get due to the whole political situation it is in. In my eyes a woman should never have to fight in a war. To me it's just wrong.
I reckon if women do want to feel equal to men then the best thing they can do is excel in whatever area they are in. If they do the best they can and reach the best possible position they can get to ... to me that sends the message that women are not inferior to men. I remember years ago there was a woman who went to court to get permission to attend a mens only club. Now I can't remember all the details but to that does not achieve equality. It signifies stupidity.
Ultimately men and women are different. We are physically different. We think differently. Our wants and needs are different. We are NOT the same and never will be. To be deemed equals does not involve imitating the other gender. It means that you excel in what you can do. That you work as hard as you can in what you can do. All in all what achieves equality between both genders is that women and men should do the best they can.
Simple.
